Eastlake High School Information Page

Located on the eastern side of Chula Vista, one of the fastest growing cities in the state, Eastlake High School (EHS), home of the Titans, opened in 1992. Since its beginning, the site has drawn positive and successful staff, students and community members. This is due in part to the college-like appearance and active involvement with the Eastlake community, but more importantly its current students and their academic accomplishments draw families to the school.

The beautifully landscaped campus reflects the pride of both staff and students. Beginning in July 2009, all schools in Sweetwater Union High School District went on a Common Calendar schedule with the school year starting at the end of July and finishing at the beginning of June. There is a seven-week summer break and breaks in the fall, winter, and spring. The school serves 2,862 students on the main campus and is home for the Independent High School at Eastlake formerly called the Learning Center. Eastlake area families are primarily professional and military, which promotes the feeling of a global culture on campus.

The school is actively supported by the community-based Eastlake Educational Foundation, has forged strong neighborhood ties. Eastlake operates and shares sports facilities with the City of Chula Vista. Our Concert Band, Titan Regiment, and Color Guard continue to win awards at numerous tournaments. Theater Arts continue throughout the school year with full productions.  The Ruth Chapman Performing Arts Center hosts numerous school and community activities. It is the resident venue of many community performing arts organizations.

Upper division career pathways in Pre-Engineering and Health Sciences provide students with opportunities to pursue career areas of interest and prepare for a smoother school-to-career transition.  Currently, available pathways include Health Sciences and Medical Technology; Engineering and Technology; Arts, Media and Entertainment; and the Health Sciences Pipeline Initiative.  The Pre-Engineering Program received the Golden Bell Award in 2006; this was the second Golden Bell for Eastlake High School. Our Academic League won the County Championships in 2008.

Compact for Success is a systemic district-wide reform initiative for higher student achievement in partnership with San Diego State University (SDSU). Both a philosophy and an attitude, the Compact for Success is a commitment to action by all members of the learning community. Participating students who meet the entrance requirements and pass the necessary placement tests are guaranteed admission to SDSU. Augmenting these opportunities at Eastlake are AP program offerings in Art History, Art Studio, Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, Economics, English Language and Literature, European History, Government, Japanese Language, Physics, Spanish Language and Literature, Statistics, U.S. History and World History.

Students feel safe and academically challenged here. Whether they are drawn to the arts or the business and professional arena courses, whether students have special needs or are English learners, whether they seek tutoring or other extra-curricular activities, students have peers and adults who advocate for them. Students are challenged to become productive and capable citizens in an ever-changing world, and strive toward maximum achievement in order to pursue post-high school goals. In conjunction with nearby Southwestern Community College, students can take college classes taught by college professors—right on their own high school campus. As a result of high student achievement among all student groups on the state STAR testing in 2004, Eastlake High School qualified and was awarded California Distinguished School status in both 2005 and 2013.  In 2010, Eastlake High Passed 800 in the API.
